(Natural barrier)
Digital image and printed drawing on glasspack – 2026
“The installation explores the tension between fragility and resilience, suggesting that natural elements can offer protection in the face of catastrophe.” – Lluci Juan
The installation recreates the palm nursery life-size that shielded Lluci Juan’s land from the floodwaters, preventing much of the debris, street furniture, vehicles and other objects carried by the current from reaching the site.
Alongside the images of the palm trees, the objects swept away by the flood (cars, containers, street furniture, household goods, fairground equipment, etc.) will be represented by drawings, together with the total figures for the disaster caused by the flood: 120,000 cars, 564 km2 devastated, 1,450 km of roads, etc.
Photographs of the palm trees are combined with drawings of objects swept away by the floods and figures showing the total scale of the disaster, creating a layered reflection on what endured and what was displaced by the force of the water.
