Action – October 29, 2025, Madrid
On October 29, 2025, at the Freijo Gallery in Madrid, a moving tribute took place within the framework of the exhibition PAIPORTA, MEMÒRIA DEL FANG. Coinciding with the first anniversary of the DANA of October 29, 2024, Lluci Juan’s proposal transformed the exhibition space into a place of living memory, collective denunciation, and accompaniment to the victims.
The action was structured through a public reading of more than ten real testimonies. The accounts were shared at the same times in which the events had occurred a year earlier, collectively reconstructing the hours leading up to the collapse and the profound impact left by the tragedy.
Voices were heard narrating the sudden loss of relatives, the suffering of those who waited hours or days without news, the anguish of those who called 112 without receiving a response, and also the perspectives of those who remained safe in their homes while witnessing the devastation from their windows. Each testimony contributed a unique perspective, weaving together a mosaic of pain, resilience, and shared memory.
Reading aloud became an act of courage and empathy, a way of stepping into the shoes of those who lived through the devastation. The event concluded with the reading of the victims’ names and the sound of the alarm, which was heard again at the exact same time as on October 29, 2024, when most of them had already passed away. That gesture marked a closure full of symbolism and left an indelible memory among those present.
The participation of representatives from the platform 7291 Truth and Justice reinforced the bonds between groups working for reparation and dignity in contexts of institutional neglect, weaving networks of support and solidarity. This exhibition is inscribed within a broader context of collective mourning in which hundreds of tributes are held throughout the Valencian territory. In Madrid, this event became the only commemorative initiative from the private sphere, establishing a symbolic bridge between memories, territories, and shared struggles.
